Marcus Epps is heading to New England, 7220 Sports reports.
The former Wyoming Cowboys safety has signed a one-year, $4.4 million contract with the New England Patriots, the team announced last Friday. Epps joins the Patriots after spending the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Blessed. Grateful. Excited. Can’t wait to get to work,” Epps shared on social media following the announcement.
A sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Epps has built a solid career in the league. After a brief stint with the Vikings, he spent nearly four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played a key role in the team’s secondary.
In 2023, Epps signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Raiders and was voted a team captain. However, his 2024 season was cut short after just three games due to a torn ACL. Despite the injury, he finished the year with 19 tackles, including two for loss. In the previous season, he recorded 66 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three pass breakups.
Now fully recovered, the 29-year-old safety is expected to be ready when the Patriots’ training camp opens on July 24.
Before his NFL career, Epps made a name for himself at the University of Wyoming. A former walk-on, he played for the Cowboys from 2015-2018, racking up 325 total tackles and nine interceptions. His standout 2016 season included 111 tackles, helping Wyoming reach the Mountain West Championship Game.
During his time in Laramie, Epps played alongside current Jacksonville Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard, forming a strong defensive duo. He also forced five fumbles and recovered four more.
Epps is now one of 10 former Wyoming players currently in the NFL, including:
- Josh Allen (QB, Buffalo Bills)
- Logan Wilson (LB, Cincinnati Bengals)
- Tyler Hall (CB, Seattle Seahawks)
- Tashaun Gipson (S, San Francisco 49ers)
- Frank Crum (OL, Denver Broncos)
- Chad Muma (LB, Jacksonville Jaguars)
- Andrew Wingard (S, Jacksonville Jaguars)
- Carl Granderson (DE, New Orleans Saints)
- Treyton Welch (TE, New Orleans Saints)
With a fresh start in New England, Epps looks to make an impact in the Patriots’ secondary and continue his NFL journey.
