Authorities are investigating a targeted attack on a Tesla repair facility in Las Vegas, where multiple vehicles were shot and set on fire early Tuesday morning.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is handling the case, considering the possibility of domestic terrorism.
According to Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls at around 2:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered several vehicles in flames and the word “Resist” spray-painted on the front doors of the facility. Surveillance footage showed an individual dressed in black shooting at Tesla vehicles and using Molotov cocktails to ignite them. A third, unexploded Molotov cocktail was found in one of the cars and is being examined as evidence.
No injuries were reported, and firefighters managed to contain the flames before they could reach the cars’ batteries.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting Tesla properties across the United States. Over the past month, Tesla charging stations, showrooms, and vehicles have been vandalized or set on fire in cities including Boston, New York, and Denver. In some cases, individuals have been arrested for occupying Tesla showrooms or damaging property.
US Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the recent wave of attacks, labeling them as “nothing short of domestic terrorism.” She also stated that several suspects had already been charged under federal laws carrying long-term sentences.
FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans confirmed that the agency is treating the Las Vegas incident with high priority.
“Whether this was terrorism or another form of criminal activity, it certainly has some of the hallmarks,” Evans said. “This is a federal crime, and we will pursue those responsible.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke out on social media, calling the attacks “insane and deeply wrong.” He emphasized that Tesla is focused on manufacturing electric vehicles and does not deserve such violent actions.
The recent attacks come amid political controversy surrounding Musk’s role in the federal government. Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, Musk has been leading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, which is implementing cost-cutting measures. Some critics have suggested that this has fueled opposition against Tesla, though no direct connections have been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Tesla is facing financial challenges, with sales declining in key markets such as the United States, Europe, and China. The company’s stock has also dropped significantly from its peak.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to report any relevant information. Bondi has warned that anyone involved in funding or coordinating these attacks will also be held accountable.
