As Wyoming football prepares for spring practice, quarterback Kaden Anderson is embracing a fresh start, KOWB reports.

After overcoming multiple knee injuries and patiently waiting for his opportunity, the redshirt freshman now enters the offseason healthy, motivated, and poised to lead the Cowboys into the 2025 season.

Anderson’s path to this moment has been anything but conventional. A highly touted recruit from Southlake Carroll (Texas), his promising high school career was disrupted by two ACL tears, forcing him to spend much of his early time at Wyoming rehabbing instead of competing.

Throughout the 2023 season, he played a limited role, primarily taking scout team reps while Jayden Clemons handled backup duties. When Clemons unexpectedly left the program in October, Anderson moved up the depth chart but still needed time to develop.

That development was put to the test in November against New Mexico, when Anderson finally took the field as Wyoming’s starter. He made an immediate impact, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score in a comeback victory. His performance earned him Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors and caught the attention of head coach Jay Sawvel.

“I was just out there having fun, playing ball,” Anderson said after the game. “It was a really great time.”

Following that performance, Sawvel made it clear that Wyoming had found a quarterback to build around.

Now fully healthy, Anderson has shed the bulky knee brace he had worn for two years. During offseason workouts, he has shown improved strength, mobility, and confidence, competing with Wyoming’s newest quarterback addition, Mason Drube.

Sawvel, who has closely monitored Anderson’s progress, has been impressed with the quarterback’s transformation.

“Way different,” Sawvel said of Anderson’s leadership. “This is an incredible offseason for him.”

Wyoming’s spring practices begin Tuesday, March 25, with the annual Brown and Gold Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at War Memorial Stadium. With Anderson leading the offense, the Cowboys are optimistic about what lies ahead.
