Just seven years ago, Billy Monger’s promising racing career was tragically cut short when the then-17-year-old was involved in a devastating Formula 4 crash in England.
The high-speed collision with a fellow competitor resulted in injuries so severe they necessitated a double-leg amputation, leaving the young driver fighting for his life and facing an uncertain future. Footage of the incident remains difficult for his family to watch, as per CNN.
Now 25, Monger has defied all expectations, transforming himself into an inspirational figure. He recently achieved a remarkable feat, breaking the world record for the fastest double amputee to complete an IRONMAN at the World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, last October.
Monger conquered the grueling 140.6-mile course, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle, and a full marathon, in an astounding 14 hours, 23 minutes, and 56 seconds – shattering the previous record by over two hours.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Monger also works as a racing pundit and commentator. He dedicated his IRONMAN challenge to raising funds for Comic Relief, a British charity committed to combating global poverty.
