Mia Love, former US Representative for Utah and the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, has died at the age of 49, as per Fox News.

The announcement was made by her family on Sunday.

Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after battling brain cancer. Earlier this month, her daughter revealed that Love’s cancer was no longer responding to treatment.

“With grateful hearts… we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today,” the family said in a statement released on X. They added that Love “quietly slipped the bands of mortality and… soared heavenward.”
