American mixed martial artist Sean Brady secured a significant victory at UFC Fight Night in London, submitting former welterweight champion Leon Edwards in the fourth round, Al Jazeera reports.
The win at the O2 Arena positions Brady as a potential contender for a title fight, possibly against fellow American Belal Muhammad.
Brady, now with an 18-1 MMA record, defeated Edwards (22-4) via guillotine choke at 1:39 of the fourth round. Brady controlled much of the fight after the first round, utilizing his wrestling to take Edwards to the ground in the second and third rounds, threatening with submissions and strikes. Although Edwards defended several takedowns, Brady’s consistent pressure led to Edwards faltering in the fourth, allowing Brady to secure the decisive choke.
Edwards, appearing in his first fight since losing the title to Muhammad in July, has now suffered two consecutive losses.
In the co-main event, New Zealander Carlos Ulberg defeated former champion Jan Blachowicz of Poland by unanimous decision in a light heavyweight bout. The win marks Ulberg’s eighth consecutive victory.
Other notable results include Kevin Holland’s unanimous decision victory over Gunnar Nelson in a welterweight bout, and Alexia Thainara’s submission win over Molly McCann in a women’s strawweight fight, prompting McCann’s retirement announcement. Chris Duncan secured a submission win over Jordan Vucenic in a lightweight bout, and Nathaniel Wood earned a unanimous decision victory over Morgan Charriere in a featherweight contest.
The UFC will continue its schedule with an event in Mexico City headlined by a flyweight main event between Brandon Moreno and Steve Erceg.
