Trump Offers Advice to Harris Amidst California Governor Run Speculation

As speculation swirls about former Vice President Kamala Harris potentially running for California governor in 2026, President Donald Trump offered some unsolicited advice: start doing more interviews, Fox News reports.
“One thing she’s gotta do, she’s gotta start doing interviews,” Trump told OutKick’s Clay Travis aboard Air Force One. “You can’t get away with both of them, during COVID he did no interviews, and he got away with it because of COVID,” Trump added, referencing former President Joe Biden.
Harris is reportedly considering a run for governor of California, with a decision expected by the end of summer. Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, is term-limited in 2026, creating an open race in a state strongly aligned with the Democratic party.
A former Harris advisor told CBS News that she would be a “great” fit for the job, citing her experience at both the state and national level and the potential for her to elevate California’s national influence.
However, Harris’s past campaign strategy has faced criticism. Some accuse her of avoiding interviews during her presidential bid. Notably, after Biden endorsed her, she went 39 days before giving an interview.
Even when she did appear, some accused her of dodging tough questions, including a reported instance where her team allegedly placed conditions on an interview with Joe Rogan, a move that ultimately prevented it from happening.
