The Wyoming Cowboys are losing another key player, as sophomore point guard AJ Wills has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, marking the second backcourt departure in less than a week, 7220sports reports.

The 6-foot-2, 160-pound guard made the decision just days after Wyoming’s leading scorer, Obi Agbim, announced his own intention to transfer. This will be Wills’ second transfer in as many years, as he originally came to Laramie after spending one season at Holy Cross. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Wills averaged 4.8 points and nearly two assists per game, logging more than 18 minutes per contest this past season.

One of his best performances came in a 70-65 road victory over Air Force, where he played all 40 minutes, dished out five assists, and scored five points while filling in for an injured Agbim. Earlier that same week, he posted a season-high 17 points in a home loss to Boise State.

Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks had expressed confidence in Wills, emphasizing his ability to change the team’s pace and provide a spark off the bench. However, his role fluctuated, and his playing time varied throughout the season.

Wills’ departure adds to a growing list of offseason roster changes for Wyoming. The Cowboys have already graduated six players, including Dontaie Allen, Touko Tainamo, Cole Henry, Jordan Nesbitt, and Kobe Newton. Additionally, Cort Roberson has chosen to forgo his final season.

With the transfer portal officially opening on March 25, Wyoming’s coaching staff will be looking to fill roster spots. As of now, the Cowboys have three incoming commits:

  • Gavin Gores (6’10”, 210 lbs, Cumberland, Wisconsin) – Forward
  • Neil Summers (6’9″, 240 lbs, Laramie, Wyoming) – Forward
  • Nasir Meyer (6’7″, 185 lbs, Los Angeles, California) – Guard

Current players still on the Wyoming roster include Scottie Ebube, Abou Magassa, Matija Belic, Levi Brown, Nigle Cook, Garrett Spielman, and Oleg Kojenets.

With the transfer window open until April 22, the Wyoming coaching staff will have opportunities to reshape the roster for the upcoming season.
