Sheridan College is set to host Wyoming Baroque, a chamber music ensemble, on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in Kinnison Hall. Tickets for the event range from $10 to $30, Sheridan Media reports.
The concert will take audiences on a journey through the world of 1725, a year marked by significant artistic innovation and cultural exchange. The program will feature a selection of Baroque masterpieces, showcasing the dynamic spirit and rich diversity of the era.
Wyoming Baroque’s performance will include Telemann’s “Les Nations anciens et modernes,” a work that blends French dance, Italian virtuosity, and Eastern European folk traditions. The ensemble will also perform Vivaldi’s “La tempesta di mare,” a dramatic depiction of a storm at sea, alongside his well-known Spring Concerto from The Four Seasons, celebrating nature’s renewal.
Additional program highlights include Telemann’s cantata “Gott will Mensch und sterblich werden,” a powerful example of Lutheran sacred music, and Bach’s “Frische Schatten” aria, offering a peaceful and serene musical interlude.
The performance will also feature “Lisette quitté la plaine,” the earliest known Haitian Creole poem set to a popular French melody. This piece, possibly sung in colonial Louisiana’s first music school, reflects the cultural resilience and blending of influences in the early 18th century.
Join Wyoming Baroque for an evening that blends tradition with transformation, celebrating the artistic vitality of a pivotal period in music history.
