Two of the most promising recruits in Wyoming’s 2024 class, quarterback Mason Drube and wide receiver Deion DeBlanc, have set their sights on making a lasting impact on the Cowboys’ football program, 7220 Sports reports.

Despite receiving interest from top programs across the country, both athletes ultimately chose Wyoming, drawn in by the vision of head coach Jay Sawvel and a shared determination to take their careers to the next level.

Drube and DeBlanc were heavily recruited by schools from Power Five conferences and beyond.

  • DeBlanc, a standout from North Shore High School in Houston, Texas, had offers from schools like Oregon, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Arkansas, and Louisville. He was seen as a versatile player who could contribute as both a receiver and a defensive back.

  • Drube, a talented quarterback from Gillette, Wyoming, attracted interest from Michigan State, Washington State, Oregon State, Boston College, and North Dakota State. His combination of arm strength, mobility, and leadership made him a sought-after prospect.

Despite the national attention, both players committed to Wyoming—Drube following in the footsteps of his late father, former Cowboys tight end Kirby Drube, and DeBlanc persuaded by the relentless recruiting efforts of Coach Sawvel.

Drube and DeBlanc have wasted no time getting acclimated to life in Laramie. Since enrolling early, the roommates have developed a disciplined routine, studying the playbook together every night and waking up at 5:20 a.m. to train.

“We don’t want this to be our final stop,” Drube said. “We want to go to the NFL. We want to go places. We’re going to do whatever it takes.”

DeBlanc echoed that sentiment, emphasizing their brotherly bond and shared ambition.

“Mason is just a bonus,” DeBlanc said. “That’s my dude, man. We’re not related or anything, but I look at him like a brother.”

Both players bring impressive skill sets to Wyoming’s offense:

  • Drube threw for 2,434 yards and 23 touchdowns last season while showcasing his dual-threat ability. His 4.62-second 40-yard dash speed adds another dynamic element to his game.

  • DeBlanc was a key player in Texas high school football’s highest classification (6A), hauling in 51 catches for 714 yards and five touchdowns. His ability to play both offense and defense at North Shore highlights his versatility.

Coach Sawvel has high expectations for the duo, believing they have the talent and mindset to shape the future of the program. While Drube will compete for playing time behind presumed starting quarterback Kaden Anderson, DeBlanc is expected to contribute immediately as a receiver.

Both players recognize the challenges ahead, but they are fully committed to elevating Wyoming football to new heights.

“We know, eventually, we’ll be the face of the program,” DeBlanc said. “That’s the goal.”
