Tourist Submarine Sinks Off Egyptian Coast, Killing At Least Six

Tragedy struck off the coast of the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada as a submarine carrying tourists sank, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, Bloomberg reports.

According to state-run newspaper Akhbar al-Youm, the vessel was carrying a total of 45 passengers of various nationalities. While six perished, 29 were successfully rescued.

The incident, which is currently under investigation, reportedly occurred near the marina of a Hurghada hotel, as cited by unidentified sources in the Akhbar al-Youm report.

Hurghada, located approximately 250 miles southeast of Cairo, is a popular destination for international tourists seeking to vacation on the Red Sea. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the sinking.
