US Air Strikes Target Houthi-Controlled Areas in Yemen
United States air strikes have targeted over 40 locations across Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen, including the capital city of Sanaa, according to local media affiliated with the Houthi rebel group, Al Jazeera reports.
The strikes occurred before dawn on Friday.
Al Masirah broadcaster, linked to the Houthis, reported that multiple residential homes and shops were damaged in the attacks, which took place in the provinces of Saada, Marib, al-Jawf, and Hodeidah. Targets also included the Sanaa International Airport, utilized for both civilian and military traffic, and mountainous terrain north of Sanaa in Amran, where military camps and other installations are reportedly located.
Al Masirah stated that at least seven people were injured across the country as a result of the strikes, including at least one in Sanaa. The broadcaster also reported disruptions to communication networks following the attacks.
As of now, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) has not officially acknowledged conducting any raids. CENTCOM has recently been granted authority from the White House to conduct offensive strikes in Yemen without prior approval.
The Houthi rebels claim that the new campaign of air strikes has resulted in at least 57 deaths. These strikes come after the Houthis threatened to resume targeting ships in the Red Sea, citing Israel’s alleged blockage of aid entering the Gaza Strip for nearly a month.
