Governor Mark Gordon has appointed Judge Nathaniel Hibben as the newest First Judicial Court Judge, representing Laramie County, Oil City News reports.

Hibben, who has served as a Circuit Court judge since 2019, will step into the role on May 9, 2025, filling the vacancy left by retiring Judge Steven Sharpe.

Before his time on the bench, Hibben built a diverse legal career, including roles as:

  • A private practice attorney

  • Municipal judge in Torrington

  • Public defender

  • Deputy District Attorney for Goshen County

He was first appointed as a Circuit Court judge in Wyoming’s Eighth Judicial District before this most recent appointment.

Governor Gordon praised the Judicial Nominating Commission for presenting three highly qualified candidates for the position. He highlighted Hibben’s fair application of the law and broad legal experience as key reasons for his selection.

“Judge Hibben’s consistent application of the law as a Circuit Court judge and his balanced legal experience will be valuable in his new role,” Gordon said in a statement.
