USDA Offers Emergency Loans to Wyoming and Montana Farmers Affected by Drought

Farmers in multiple Wyoming counties are now eligible for USDA emergency loans following a severe drought designation, NonStop Local Billings reports.
This designation, issued on March 25, 2025, allows the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) to provide financial assistance to help farmers recover from drought-related losses.
Farmers in the following primary counties can apply:
Wyoming: Albany, Big Horn, Carbon, Fremont, Hot Springs, Lincoln, Natrona, Park, Sublette, and Washakie.
Montana: Gallatin County.
Additionally, farmers in neighboring counties—including Converse, Johnson, Laramie, Platte, Sheridan, Sweetwater, Teton, and Uinta in Wyoming—are also eligible. Farmers in parts of Colorado, Idaho, and Utah may qualify as well.
The drought reached a “D2 Drought-Severe” intensity for at least eight consecutive weeks, triggering the USDA disaster declaration. This allows affected farmers to apply for emergency loans to assist with recovery.
Emergency loans can be used for:
Replacing essential equipment or livestock
Reorganizing farming operations
Refinancing existing debts
The FSA will review applications based on financial losses, available security, and repayment ability.
Farmers have until November 25, 2025, to apply for assistance.
For more information or to apply, farmers should contact their local USDA FSA office.
