The Kelly Walsh Marine Corps JROTC marksmanship team has claimed its sixth straight Wyoming State Championship, continuing its dominance in state competition, Oil City News reports.

In addition to securing first place, the team also took home second- and third-place finishes in the event held earlier this month.

According to Master Gunnery Sgt. Fred Pickering, the team’s JROTC instructor, this latest victory caps off an impressive season that saw team member Treston Jiminez qualify for JROTC Nationals.

“This remarkable achievement marked their sixth consecutive State Championship title, a testament to their hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit,” Pickering said. “With each competition, they added another chapter to their storied legacy, leaving an indelible mark on the JROTC community and inspiring future generations to aim high and shoot true.”

Throughout the season, the Kelly Walsh team excelled in several competitions, including:

  • SY25 “Pellets & Pumpkins Thanksgiving Shootout”

  • SY25 “Frights & Sights Zombie Shootout”

  • SY25 “Red Ryder Don’t Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid Shootout”

  • SY25 “BANG, In the New Year Shootout”

In addition, two Kelly Walsh teams qualified for the Marine Corps CMP Service Championships in Alabama, an event that selects only 18 teams from across the nation out of more than 400.

Standout shooter Treston Jiminez earned a spot at the JROTC Nationals, finishing 62nd out of over 6,000 competitors—a ranking that highlights the elite level of the Kelly Walsh program.

The Kelly Walsh Marine Corps JROTC program was established in 2018, and since then, it has built a reputation for discipline, precision, and excellence in marksmanship.
