Elon Musk ignited controversy at a Wisconsin get-out-the-vote rally over the weekend by presenting a chart he said showed a significant increase in Social Security numbers issued to noncitizens during former President Joe Biden’s term, as per Fox News.

The event, held just days before a key state judicial election, has drawn attention not only for the data presented but also for Musk’s other activities, including the distribution of $1 million checks to voters.

Following the check presentation, Musk brought Antonio Gracias, a business associate from his DOGE venture, onto the stage to discuss his work related to the Social Security system. A large graphic, prominently displayed on a screen behind them, bore the title “New Non-Citizen Social Security Numbers Issued.”

The chart depicted a steady rise in the number of Social Security numbers issued to noncitizens from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2025. According to the data presented, the number exceeded 2 million in fiscal year 2024, which ended on September 30. Fiscal years 2023 and 2025 each reportedly saw roughly 1 million noncitizens issued Social Security numbers.

These figures come amidst an ongoing probe by Musk and DOGE into various federal programs and agencies, including the Social Security Administration. Musk stated that DOGE has recently removed approximately 7 million Social Security accounts belonging to individuals listed as being over 120 years old. He also alleged that audits revealed the Social Security database included 20 million deceased individuals marked as alive.
