The University of Wyoming men’s golf team finished the opening day of the Cowboy Classic in 12th place, sitting at 2-under par as Round 2 neared completion at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Despite solid individual performances, head coach Joe Jensen expressed disappointment in the team’s overall start, especially after a productive preparation day.

Iowa State leads the 23-team field at 23-under par, followed closely by Long Beach State (-21) and Pacific (-16). Wyoming’s top individual performer, Jaren Calkins, is tied for 27th at 2-under, while Brody Leid posted the team’s best individual round of the day with a 70 (-2).

The Cowboys will resume Round 2 at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, aiming to climb the leaderboard in the final round of the tournament. Despite the slow start, the team remains optimistic about leveraging individual strengths to improve their standing.

Following the Cowboy Classic, Wyoming will compete in the Tiger Intercollegiate in Columbia, Missouri, on April 7-8 before preparing for the Mountain West Conference Championships from April 25-27 in Creswell, Oregon.
