The Food Bank of Wyoming recently reached a significant achievement with the delivery of its one-millionth pound of fresh produce on March 12 in Jackson, marking a major milestone for its FRESH Express Route, Wyoming News Now reports.

Launched in 2023, this initiative has become a vital resource for improving access to fresh, nutritious food for individuals and families facing food insecurity across the state, while also supporting local producers.

Originally piloted in October 2023, the FRESH Express Route enables the Food Bank to more frequently distribute fresh produce to its Hunger Relief Partners throughout Wyoming. The program also facilitates the collection of produce from local growers, allowing Wyoming-grown food to be delivered directly to communities in need.

“The success of the FRESH Express Route highlights our commitment to providing fresh, nourishing food to Wyoming’s neighbors,” said Danica Sveda, Director of Development for the Food Bank. “During a delivery at the Lyman Mobile Pantry this winter, we were touched by the gratitude of community members who were excited to receive fresh plums, zucchini, and other produce—especially considering the frigid temperatures that day.”

The FRESH Express Route has proven essential in addressing the health risks associated with poor diets and limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. By providing Hunger Relief Partners with high-quality food, the program helps combat food insecurity while also promoting better health outcomes in the community. Since its inception, the route has delivered one million pounds of fresh produce, benefiting communities across Wyoming.

“I get a kick out of driving around the state and delivering food to our partners,” said James Rumminger, a FRESH Express Route driver. “Wyoming is a special place, and I’m grateful to do something I enjoy while helping others.”

The initiative now serves 20 out of Wyoming’s 23 counties, and the Food Bank plans to expand the program into southeastern Wyoming in 2025, further enhancing access to nutritious food for underserved areas.
