A Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) snowplow was hit by a passenger vehicle late Monday night on Interstate 80 near Laramie, marking the sixth such incident in southeast Wyoming this winter, Country Herald reports.
The collision occurred around 10:00 p.m. on April 1 at mile marker 317 in the eastbound lanes. According to authorities, the passenger vehicle, traveling at a high speed, rear-ended the snowplow as it was operating near a closure gate. The snowplow had just finished lowering the gate when the crash occurred.
While the snowplow operator was unharmed, the passenger vehicle sustained significant damage, and its occupants were injured. Their current conditions remain unknown as the investigation continues.
This crash brings Wyoming’s total snowplow collisions this winter to 14, with six occurring in District 1 alone. Authorities note that black ice and slick roads contributed to the dangerous conditions at the time of the crash.
Wyoming law requires drivers to yield to emergency vehicles and maintenance crews, and WYDOT urges motorists to adjust speeds in winter conditions. Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions before driving using WYDOT’s 511 tools for real-time updates.
