Democratic Scandals Gain Traction in Legacy Media

In the lead-up to the November election, prominent media outlets and seasoned political reporters are increasingly focusing on scandals that have plagued the Democratic Party, revisiting issues long championed by Republicans, Fox News reports.
This apparent shift in coverage has prompted accusations of delayed reporting and a previous reluctance to address these controversies.
The New York Post recently criticized The New York Times for what it deemed a belated exploration of Hunter Biden’s alleged influence-peddling schemes, particularly those involving the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. “A full 4½ years after The Post’s bombshell series on Hunter Biden’s influence-peddling schemes, The New York Times has deigned to take an interest in the former First Son’s corruption,” the Post’s editorial board wrote, adding:
“We’d say the Times’ willingness to at long last cover this comes better late than never, but it only published the story now that it doesn’t remotely matter anymore.”
Specifically, The New York Times recently reported that Hunter Biden “sought support from the State Department” to benefit Burisma while his father, then Vice President Joe Biden, was in office. Conservatives have long alleged that Hunter Biden leveraged his family name and political connections to secure a lucrative board position with the company.
These allegations include claims that the Bidens “coerced” Burisma’s CEO into paying them millions in exchange for securing the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the company during the Obama administration. The current President has consistently denied any involvement in his son’s business dealings
While allegations of Biden family influence-peddling have been circulating widely, legacy media outlets and left-leaning publications have often been accused of downplaying or ignoring them.
Beyond the Hunter Biden controversy, media veterans and mainstream outlets are also increasingly reporting on other issues previously emphasized by conservatives, such as the theory that the COVID-19 virus originated from a lab in Wuhan, China. The New York Times recently published a column asserting that the scientific community “badly misled” the public in an effort to suppress the lab leak theory, even after one of its own science writers had dismissed the theory as “racist.” The Trump administration’s CIA previously reported that the lab leak was the most likely origin of the virus, a theory that was initially dismissed by many as a conspiracy.
The New York Times has defended its past coverage, stating that it had reported on the lab leak theory multiple times over the years, including in 2021.
