A 42-year-old Wyoming man, Jeffrey Montez, died early Friday morning after losing control of his vehicle and rolling off Wyoming Highway 789 in Fremont County, County 17 reports.

Authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), Montez was driving north toward Riverton at 6:37 a.m. on April 4 when he lost control due to snowy and slushy road conditions near mile marker 92.5, close to the community of Hudson.

His Chevrolet van began to rotate clockwise, veering off the roadway into an adjacent ditch. The vehicle rolled twice before coming to a stop on its wheels, facing south.

Investigators believe falling snow, slick roads, and Montez’s speed may have played a role in the crash. The WHP also noted that not wearing a seatbelt likely contributed to the fatal outcome.

Montez was the only occupant in the vehicle, and no other parties were involved.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution during winter weather conditions and emphasize the importance of seatbelt use to reduce the risk of serious injuries or fatalities in accidents.
