In Wyoming, a state known for its deep conservative roots, a wave of protests erupted this past Saturday as demonstrators in various towns took part in the nationwide “Hands Off!” movement, WyoFile reports.

The protests were aimed at President Donald Trump and his ally, billionaire Elon Musk, as they rallied against the administration’s policies. Despite Trump winning Wyoming with a decisive margin in the 2024 election, the opposition to his actions has grown louder in the months following his second term.

Hundreds of residents gathered in towns such as Cheyenne, Casper, and Jackson to voice their concerns. The protests were part of a coordinated nationwide effort to challenge what organizers described as a power grab by Trump and Musk. Protesters across the country, including those in Wyoming, expressed frustration over cuts to government programs, the treatment of marginalized communities, and a variety of other political issues.

In Cheyenne, over 300 people gathered outside the State Capitol. Some protesters carried signs that criticized Trump’s policies, while others voiced concerns over specific issues such as LGBTQ+ rights and cuts to education and healthcare funding. Local resident April Clarke shared her anxiety over the administration’s direction, especially regarding special education programs and the well-being of future generations. She was joined by others who felt similarly, with many making a statement by attending the event.

Despite the loud opposition from demonstrators, the rally in Cheyenne also saw a smaller group of counter-protesters supporting Trump. These individuals, some proudly waving Trump flags, expressed their belief in the administration’s priorities. Brian Pixley, one of the counter-protesters, stated that those who were protesting were misinformed, suggesting they needed to “do their research.”

In Casper, approximately 500 people gathered to protest the Trump administration. Organizers were heartened by the turnout and the support they received, with many expressing concern about issues ranging from civil rights to economic stability. Sandy Bouchier, one of the organizers, shared her gratitude for the community’s involvement, remarking that the protest helped people realize they were not alone in their views. However, some of the protesters also voiced frustration with policies they felt negatively impacted the country, including economic tariffs and government inefficiency.

Jackson saw a similarly spirited protest, though it was notably smaller than those in Cheyenne and Casper. Demonstrators in Jackson expressed their concerns over the administration’s cuts to federal services, including the loss of protections for public lands. Some attendees were lifelong Republicans who felt disillusioned by Trump’s leadership. Craig Logan, a former Republican, expressed his disappointment with what he saw as undemocratic actions from Trump and his administration.

While the protests were a vocal reminder of growing discontent in Wyoming with the Trump administration, it is important to note that they represent a segment of the population. In a state where Trump dominated the 2024 election, the visible protests are a small fraction of the broader political landscape. Many residents still support the administration’s stance on various issues, and the protests themselves reveal a divide on the future direction of the country under Trump’s leadership.
