Ukraine to Negotiate Post-War Investment Deal with US

A delegation of Ukrainian officials is set to visit the United States at the end of this week for talks on a potential deal governing the post-war exploitation of mineral deposits and the rebuilding of vital infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.
The Ukrainian delegation, comprised of deputy ministers from the economy and justice ministries, will arrive in the US on April 11-12. While no higher-level politicians will be present, sources familiar with the matter indicate that President Trump’s administration requires technical consultations at this stage. The Ukrainian government has also enlisted an international law firm to advise on the complex negotiations.
According to sources who requested anonymity due to the non-public nature of the talks, Kyiv aims to secure favorable terms in the prospective agreement.
The US views the deal as compensation for the tens of billions of dollars in aid provided by the previous Biden administration.
This visit follows online discussions between Washington and Kyiv in late March, prompted by the US presenting a draft agreement for Ukraine to consider.
The timing of these negotiations coincides with peace negotiations brokered by Trump’s team, recently held in Saudi Arabia. While those efforts appear to have lost momentum, a temporary partial ceasefire on energy infrastructure was agreed upon between Ukraine and Russia.
