Gas prices in Wyoming have risen over the past week, reflecting broader national trends in fuel costs, K2 Radio reports.

According to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 494 gas stations across the state, the average price per gallon in Wyoming is now $3.15, marking an increase of 6.4 cents over the past seven days. Compared to last month, prices are up 18.7 cents per gallon but remain 14.2 cents lower than this time last year.

The cost of gas varies significantly across Wyoming, with the lowest reported price at $2.78 per gallon and the highest at $3.45—a 67-cent difference. Meanwhile, the national average has risen by 10.6 cents in the past week, reaching $3.21 per gallon. Despite this recent spike, gas prices nationwide are still 35.6 cents lower than they were a year ago.

Diesel prices have also seen an uptick, climbing 3.6 cents over the past week to an average of $3.59 per gallon.

Industry experts suggest that recent economic developments and geopolitical shifts are influencing fuel costs. According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, the national average saw its largest weekly increase of the year. However, this trend may be short-lived as oil prices have dropped sharply due to several factors:

  • Global Economic Concerns: The US recently announced major tariffs, raising fears of slowed economic growth.

  • OPEC+ Production Adjustments: Oil-producing nations are increasing supply more quickly than expected, contributing to price declines.

  • Stock Market Fluctuations: Recent market volatility and recession fears have weakened energy demand projections.

As a result, analysts predict that gas prices could begin to fall nationwide in the coming weeks. If economic uncertainties persist and tariffs remain in place, the national average may drop below $3 per gallon, though future price trends remain uncertain.

Wyoming’s gas prices remain in line with those in neighboring states:

  • Fort Collins, CO: $3.03/gallon (up 10.9 cents from last week)

  • Ogden, UT: $3.14/gallon (up 7.7 cents from last week)

  • Billings, MT: $3.08/gallon (up 3.0 cents from last week)

Looking at the past decade, Wyoming’s current gas prices are relatively moderate. On April 7, 2022, the average price was $4.04 per gallon, while in 2020, it was as low as $2.03 per gallon.
