Cristiano Ronaldo, the globally renowned football superstar, is branching out into the world of cinema, Bloomberg reports.
The Portuguese icon has partnered with British film producer Matthew Vaughn to launch UR•MARV, an independent film studio marking Ronaldo’s first major investment in the movie-making industry.
The newly formed studio, a 50-50 joint venture between Ronaldo and Vaughn, has already financed and produced two action films. According to a statement released by UR•MARV, they are currently preparing to begin production on a third film in the same series. The specific amount invested by Ronaldo and Vaughn remains undisclosed.
This move into film production reflects the growing opportunities for independent studios, fueled by the rise of streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+, which offer global distribution networks. These platforms provide a crucial avenue for independent filmmakers to reach a wider audience.
Ronaldo’s foray into filmmaking is just the latest addition to his diverse portfolio of investments. Over the past decade, the 39-year-old athlete has strategically invested in various ventures, including a hotel chain, a porcelain manufacturer, and a media company in his native Portugal. He recently completed the acquisition of a tennis and padel club in Lisbon, further demonstrating his expanding business interests. Ronaldo has also publicly expressed his ambition to own multiple football clubs after his retirement.
The partnership with Vaughn, known for producing successful action franchises like “Kingsman” and “Kick-Ass,” suggests a focus on high-octane entertainment. While the specifics of the initial films remain under wraps, the collaboration promises to bring a new dimension to Ronaldo’s already impressive career.
A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, where he reportedly earns an annual salary of around $200 million.
