Basketball icon LeBron James has reached a new milestone, becoming the first male professional athlete to be immortalized in the form of a Ken doll, The AP reports.
Toy giant Mattel Inc. unveiled the LeBron Ken doll on Wednesday, kicking off their highly anticipated “Kenbassador” series, a counterpart to last year’s successful launch of nine female athlete Barbie dolls, including tennis legend Venus Williams.
The meticulously crafted LeBron Ken doll embodies the athlete’s signature style. He sports sunglasses, headphones, and a stylish blue-and-white letterman’s jacket. The jacket features personal touches, including “LJ” on the left breast, his iconic number 23 on the right sleeve, and Ohio and crown patches adorning the other.
The back of the jacket proudly displays his first name, “LeBron,” above the poignant message, “Just a kid from Akron.” The doll’s T-shirt reads “We Are Family,” a heartfelt nod to the impactful work of the LeBron James Family Foundation. Completing the ensemble are a pair of blue Nike shoes, a fitting tribute to his long-standing partnership with the athletic apparel giant.
The $75 doll, set to hit shelves on Monday, has already received the King’s seal of approval.
During his review, James thoughtfully added an “I Promise” wristband to the doll’s wrist and carefully adjusted the strap on its fanny pack, adding a personal touch.
According to Mattel Senior Vice President Krista Berger, the “Kenbassador” series celebrates the spirit of support and friendship, highlighting Ken’s role as Barbie’s longtime best friend and champion.
