China Escalates Trade War, Hikes Tariffs on US Imports to 125%

China has announced a significant increase in tariffs on American imports, raising them from 84% to 125% in the latest escalation of the ongoing trade war between the two global economic powers, Fox News reports.
The move, announced by the Chinese government on Friday, is a direct response to recent tariff increases imposed by the United States, according to the Chinese finance ministry.
“The US’s imposition of abnormally high tariffs on China seriously violates international economic and trade rules, and also violates basic economic laws and common sense. It is a completely unilateral bullying and coercive practice,” the ministry stated in a released statement.
The Chinese government further indicated that it may not retaliate against future US tariff increases, suggesting a saturation point for American goods in the Chinese market.
“Given that at the current tariff level, there is no market acceptance for US goods exported to China, if the US continues to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods exported to the US, China will ignore it.”
The announcement comes amidst a series of tariff actions taken by the United States. President Donald Trump recently stated on Truth Social that tariffs against China would reach 125%.
Furthermore, when factoring in tariffs specifically targeting the flow of fentanyl from China, the overall US tariff rate against Chinese goods stands at an even higher 145%.
The escalating trade war between the US and China, two of the world’s largest economies, continues to create uncertainty in the global market and raises concerns about potential impacts on businesses and consumers worldwide.
