French President Emmanuel Macron is calling for the European Union to maintain its focus on developing necessary tariff countermeasures to protect itself, despite US President Donald Trump’s recent 90-day pause on imposing new tariffs, Bloomberg reports.
In a post on X early Friday, Macron emphasized the need for the EU to “show strength” and “prevent flows from third countries from disrupting our market.”
Macron characterized Trump’s tariff pause as “fragile,” highlighting that existing tariffs on EU steel, aluminum, automobiles, and cars remain in effect.
