The University of Wyoming track and field team wrapped up a standout performance at the Kit Mayer Classic this past weekend, claiming six event victories, 28 personal-best marks, and adding seven new entries to the program’s all-time Top-10 list, SweetwaterNOW reports.

Held over two days at the Colorado School of Mines, the meet saw the Cowboys and Cowgirls secure 17 podium finishes, underscoring the team’s growing momentum during the outdoor season.

Freshman Avery Navest delivered a breakthrough performance in the women’s heptathlon, finishing second overall with 4,803 points — the third-best score in program history and among the top 45 in the nation this year. Teammate Lily Nichols placed sixth with 4,072 points, including a personal best in the long jump and a win in the 800 meters.

Junior Remar Pitter stole the show in the men’s long jump, winning with an outdoor personal best of 25 feet, 2.5 inches (7.68 meters). His leap now ranks fourth in Wyoming’s outdoor record books and 16th in the nation this season.

Senior Cam Burkett also captured a win in the men’s shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 6.5 inches (17.84 meters), while freshman Charles LaFore, who had already taken first in the hammer throw on Friday, placed fifth in the same event. Sophomore Kais Kimuli posted a personal best to take second in the women’s shot put.

Additional strong performances came from freshman Melody ZumBrunnen, who placed second in the women’s long jump, and freshman Koi Adderley, who tied for fourth in the women’s high jump.

The Cowgirls’ 4×100-meter relay team — composed of Taliah Morris, Elayna Chafee, Megan Witkiewicz, and Gabby Drube — secured a win with a time of 45.60 seconds, ranking sixth in program history. The Cowboys’ relay squad of Christian Edwards, Bridger Norton, Logan Brown, and Carter McComb followed suit with a win of their own in 40.84 seconds, marking the 10th-fastest time in school history.

In individual sprints, freshman Taliah Morris made her collegiate debut in the 100 meters with a second-place finish of 11.80 seconds, tying for sixth all-time at Wyoming. On the men’s side, McComb clocked a personal best of 10.48 to place fourth, the fifth-fastest time in program history.

Senior Trevor Stephen and junior Mac Zastrow delivered a 1-2 finish in the men’s 1,500 meters, while three Cowgirls — Hanan Aldelemy, Muriel Jones, and Reagan Gillman — posted personal bests and finished in the top 10.

In the steeplechase events, junior Rozlyn Slichko and freshman Austin Akers each placed second in their respective races with altitude-adjusted times.

Senior Jaheim Ferguson captured the men’s 400-meter hurdles title with a personal-best time of 50.64 seconds — the second-fastest in school history and the 13th-best time in the country this season. He also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles.

Gabby Drube finished runner-up in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, while sophomore Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina, freshman Lily McDowell, and senior Jenae Ramirez all placed in the top 15.

Following a strong showing at the Kit Mayer Classic, the Cowboys and Cowgirls now turn their attention westward. Wyoming’s track and field athletes are set to compete in three meets during their busiest week of the outdoor season: the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California (Wednesday–Friday), the Pacific Coast Invitational (Thursday), and the Long Beach Invitational (Thursday–Saturday).
