Eight high school track and field athletes from Wyoming took part in the highly regarded 2025 Arcadia Invitational over the weekend, showcasing their talents on a national stage against top-tier competition, WyoPreps reports.
Athletes from Cheyenne Central, Laramie, Sheridan, and Star Valley participated in a variety of events during the two-day meet, which drew approximately 4,000 competitors from across the country. Four Wyoming athletes competed in open divisions, while the remaining four earned spots in more competitive seeded or invitational divisions.
Sheridan’s Chance Morris was the only Wyoming athlete to compete in two top-level divisions. Morris ran 10.89 seconds in the 100-meter Seeded division, finishing ninth. He also placed eighth in the 200-meter Invitational division, clocking in at 21.67 seconds. The 200-meter winner set a meet record with a time of 20.35 seconds.
Laramie’s Lainey Berryhill and Cheyenne Central’s Kalyanna Flores both competed in the 400-meter Open division. Berryhill placed 13th out of 48 runners with a time of 56.42 seconds, while Flores finished 43rd at 58.77 seconds.
In the 400-meter Invitational division, Laramie’s Flynn Arnold ran 47.97 seconds, earning seventh place in a field of eight.
Star Valley’s Jase Burton posted a competitive time in the 3200-meter Invitational race, finishing 19th out of 37 with a time of 8:51.91, just six seconds behind the fifth-place runner. His teammate, Habtamu Wetzel, ran 9:32.18 in the Seeded division of the same event, finishing 36th.
In the field events, Star Valley’s Abigail Carillo-Zarate took 17th in the girls’ shot put Open division, recording a best mark of 34 feet, 1.5 inches.
Cheyenne Central’s Race Morrell competed in two open races. He finished 29th in the Open Mile with a time of 4:20.46 and placed 42nd in the Open 800 meters at 1:59.21.
Two other Wyoming athletes were registered for events but did not compete.
The 57th annual Arcadia Invitational, held in California, continues to be one of the premier high school track and field meets in the United States. Several meet records were broken during this year’s competition.
