Authorities Identify Man Found on Cheyenne Refinery Property in 2023

Human remains discovered last fall on the grounds of the Cheyenne Refinery have been identified as those of 61-year-old Neal D. Samson, a transient man, Laramie County Coroner Rebecca Reid announced Wednesday.

The body was located in Crow Creek on November 14, 2023. After months of investigation, positive identification was made through DNA analysis conducted by the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation.

“The Laramie County Coroner’s Office, along with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, is grateful for the public’s assistance in this long-standing investigation and sends their deepest condolences to Neal’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Reid said in a press release.

The cause of Samson’s death remains under investigation, with no further details released at this time.
