Trump Administration Accuses NY AG Letitia James of Mortgage Fraud in Explosive Allegations

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing serious allegations of mortgage fraud, leveled by the Trump administration, Fox News reports.
Documents obtained by Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” reveal that the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has filed a criminal referral with the Department of Justice, accusing James of potentially falsifying records to secure favorable loan terms.
According to a letter from FHFA Director William Pulte to Attorney General Pam Bondi, James allegedly misrepresented information regarding properties in Virginia and New York. Pulte claims James identified a Virginia property as her principal residence and misrepresented a New York property as a four-unit structure, when it was allegedly a five-unit building. Pulte argues that these misrepresentations could have resulted in more advantageous loan terms for James.
The claims were initially brought to light by retired NYPD inspector and Fox News contributor Paul Mauro, who stated he first reported the allegations on his Substack nearly ten weeks ago. Mauro stated, “The documents presented by Sam Antar, and the research he has done, appear entirely authentic. In which case, AG James appears to have engaged in the very sort of fraud which she alleged in her ludicrous case against Donald Trump. Let’s see now, if indeed, as AG James has stated herself, nobody is above the law.”
Adding to the controversy, The New York Post reported that records from 1983 and 2000 show a property James purchased with her father listed both parties as “husband and wife.” Pulte reportedly wrote, “While this was a long time ago, it raises serious concerns about the validity of Ms. James’ representations on mortgage applications.”
The timing of these allegations is particularly noteworthy, given James’ prominent role in prosecuting Donald Trump. James spearheaded a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump, the Trump Organization, and its senior leadership in 2022, maintaining a visible presence throughout the proceedings and celebrating Trump’s recent conviction in the Manhattan criminal trial. Trump was ultimately ordered to pay a $454 million civil fraud judgment in James’ lawsuit, a decision currently under appeal.
Furthermore, James has been actively engaged in legal challenges against the Trump administration in 2025, including leading coalitions of state attorneys general in lawsuits to halt DOGE’s access to the Treasury Department’s internal systems and challenging the administration’s cuts to research funding for institutions and universities.
These latest accusations raise serious questions about the integrity of Attorney General James and add another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battles between her and the Trump administration. The Department of Justice is now tasked with investigating the FHFA’s criminal referral and determining whether further action is warranted.
