Sefton Douglass, a standout wrestler from Lyman, Wyoming, and a national runner-up at Western Wyoming Community College, has committed to continue his athletic and academic career with the University of Wyoming wrestling team, SweetwaterNOW reports.
Douglass made the announcement via Instagram, confirming his move to the Division I level after an impressive two-year stint with the Western Wyoming Mustangs. During the 2024–25 season, he placed second nationally at 125 pounds at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships held in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
His tournament run featured dominant wins by fall and major decision, followed by a narrow 2-1 semifinal victory over North Idaho’s Elijah Cater. In the title match, Douglass fell 4-1 in sudden victory to Ane’e Vigil of Clackamas Community College. His performance contributed significantly to Western Wyoming’s third-place team finish with 137.5 points, just behind Indian Hills and Clackamas.
Douglass was one of three Mustangs to earn national runner-up honors, joining teammates Alarcon and Dalton. Heavyweight wrestler Dmarian Lopez secured the program’s only individual championship at the event.
Prior to his college career, Douglass made a name for himself as one of Wyoming’s most accomplished high school wrestlers. Competing for Lyman High School, he compiled an outstanding 153-3 career record, including an undefeated stretch over his final three seasons. His achievements include four individual state titles, a milestone reached by just a select group of athletes in Wyoming wrestling history.
