Rooted in Wyoming, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving food security and community resilience through gardening and education, is seeking a Volunteer Program Developer through the AmeriCorps VISTA program, Sheridan Media reports.

The announcement was made Monday, April 21, by Ian Cannon Wallace, the organization’s Program and Outreach Coordinator.

This new position offers a unique opportunity for an individual interested in both community engagement and sustainable agriculture. The role will focus on developing and implementing volunteer programs to support Rooted in Wyoming’s school and community garden projects across the Sheridan area.

As part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program, the position includes a modest living allowance, health benefits, and a financial award that can be applied toward education. It is designed for individuals who are passionate about service and are looking to make a measurable impact in their community.

Rooted in Wyoming’s mission centers around promoting food security through hands-on gardening and education initiatives. The organization builds and maintains gardens that supply fresh produce to food banks, schools, and local food assistance programs. By strengthening local food systems and fostering collaboration, the organization helps reduce barriers to healthy food access while offering opportunities for community participation and skill-building.

The Volunteer Program Developer will play a key role in mobilizing volunteers to work in school gardens, community plots, and Rooted in Wyoming’s agricultural spaces at the Bridges campus. This includes recruiting and training community members, working with local schools and nonprofits, and coordinating volunteer events to maximize engagement and food production.

The position will report to Rooted in Wyoming’s Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Program and Outreach Coordinator. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with both people and plants, and be committed to furthering Rooted in Wyoming’s mission of connecting communities through local food initiatives.

For more information about the position or to apply, individuals are encouraged to contact Rooted in Wyoming directly or call 307-461-7403.
