The search for Nash Quinn, a 39-year-old mountain biker who went missing in July 2024, is still ongoing as authorities continue their efforts to locate him, BIKE MAG reports.
Quinn, a visiting professor of Visual Arts at the University of Wyoming, disappeared on July 8, 2024, after leaving his Laramie home to go on a mountain biking trip. Since then, there has been no sign of his whereabouts despite extensive search operations.
Quinn was last seen taking his white, fixed-fork 29er Ridley mountain bike for a ride in the Pole Mountain, Happy Jack, Roger’s Canyon, and Sheep Mountain areas southeast of Laramie. These popular trail systems, located near US Highway 80, cover over 70,000 acres, and are frequented by local cyclists and hikers.
According to the Laramie Police Department (LPD), Quinn’s disappearance is highly unusual.
“Nash was an avid and experienced cyclist, regularly biking 20 to 50 miles a day,” the department stated in a public appeal for information.
The police have urged hikers and bikers in the area to remain vigilant and report any signs or objects that seem out of place.
At the time of his disappearance, Quinn was a faculty member at the University of Wyoming, teaching jewelry and metalsmithing. Described by friends and colleagues as a kind and accomplished individual, Quinn also has a background in metalsmithing, specializing in pattern-formed enameled vessels and small-scale spring-based mechanisms. His artwork has been exhibited nationally, and he maintains a professional website and Instagram presence showcasing his creative work.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are particularly concerning as Quinn left behind his wallet, driver’s license, cell phone, and credit cards at his residence, suggesting that he intended to go out on his bike and not in his vehicle. His red 2003 Toyota Corolla Matrix was also found securely parked at his home.
Search efforts have been carried out by local law enforcement and volunteer organizations, but as of now, there have been no breakthroughs. The police have urged the public to report any unusual findings, such as clothing, bike parts, or other items that may be relevant. In their appeal, the LPD recommended that anyone who encounters such items take a photograph, note the location using GPS, and contact the Laramie Police Department at (307) 721-2526.
In an effort to support the ongoing search, Quinn’s sister, Tess, set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs associated with the search operations. The page has garnered support from family, friends, and strangers alike, with many expressing their hopes for Quinn’s safe return. Tess wrote on the fundraising page:
“Nash is a kind-hearted, loving human being who brings light into everyone’s life he touches. All of his family and friends are desperate to find him.”
A close friend of Quinn’s, Jon Cicarelli, spoke with Bike Magazine about the search efforts, recalling the support from the cycling community and beyond.
“Last summer we had many come out to help find him. While we ultimately didn’t find him, it was heartening to see all of the support from friends and total strangers,” Cicarelli said. “We are not done searching, and we hope that eventually we will get answers.”
As the search continues into the spring, authorities remain hopeful that new information or clues may surface, especially with more outdoor activity expected as the snow recedes and trail conditions improve.
Anyone with information regarding Nash Quinn’s disappearance is urged to contact the Laramie Police Department.
