As the Wyoming high school outdoor track and field season heads into its final stretch, Week 7 features a packed schedule of 11 in-state meets and several out-of-state competitions, including the highly anticipated Wyoming Track Classic, WyoPreps reports.
With just two weeks remaining before regional championships, athletes are making their final pushes for qualifying performances.
The week began on Tuesday, April 29, with the Rick and Wendy Schuler Invitational at Evanston High School. The Evanston boys and girls teams both placed first in team scoring, with notable performances from Kemmerer’s Laynee Walker, who won the 100 and 300 hurdles as well as the pole vault, and Rock Springs’ Brynn Bider, who claimed titles in the 100, 200, and long jump. In the boys’ division, Kemmerer’s Cole Rogers swept the hurdle events.
Other early-week action included Wyoming schools competing out of state. At the Best in the West meet in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Torrington’s Brooklyn Asmus won three sprint events and anchored the winning 4×100 relay team. Meanwhile, in South Dakota’s Northern Hills Invite, Hulett’s Josie Dider and Sundance’s Jake Schommer and Holden Ayer claimed individual victories in track and field events.
From Thursday, May 1, to Saturday, May 3, schools will compete in meets across the state, including Gillette, Buffalo, Casper, Ethete, Saratoga, Lovell, Pinedale, Wright, Lusk, and Riverton. Among the major events is the Wyoming Track Classic on Friday at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper — an elite, invitation-only meet featuring top performers from around the state, limited to two events per athlete.
Other featured meets this week include:
Basin National Invite in Gillette
Buffalo Twilight Meet
Kelly Walsh Invite in Casper
Wyoming Indian Throwing Meet in Ethete
Burt Willford & Laurie Johnston Memorial in Saratoga
Lovell Invitational
Mountain Man Invite in Pinedale
