Just months after relocating their family to Madrid, Richard Gere and his wife Alejandra Silva are already making plans to return to the United States, Fox News reports.

Silva revealed their intentions at the recent Gala: Carnaval in New York City, speaking to the Daily Mail about their long-term vision.

“For a few years [we’ll live in Spain], and then come back. But we’re always coming back,” Silva explained, referencing their two young sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4. “We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here.”

The couple’s move to Spain at the end of 2024 marked a shift after years of Gere residing in New York City. The decision to raise their children in Silva’s home country was initially driven by the desire for a new environment and cultural experience.

Gere first hinted at the move last spring, later telling Jimmy Fallon in November that he believed his children would “flourish” in Spain. The family celebrated Thanksgiving in Spain, and Silva shared a festive photo on Instagram later that month of their sons decorating their Christmas tree, captioned, “This year finally, Christmas in Spain!” In January, Gere told Elle España that the couple were “happier than ever” living abroad.

Despite their initial enthusiasm for life in Spain, it appears the allure of the US, particularly New York, remains strong. The couple intends to maintain a presence in both countries, ensuring their children have access to summer camps and other opportunities in the United States.

Gere and Silva met 11 years ago while navigating their respective divorces. In addition to Alexander and James, Gere has a 24-year-old son from his previous marriage to Carey Lowell.
