Iran Awaits Word on Rescheduled Nuclear Talks, Denies Houthi Link to Israel Strike

Iran is awaiting confirmation from Oman regarding the scheduling of a new round of nuclear talks with the United States, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, as per Bloomberg.
The previous round, planned for last weekend in Rome with Oman as an intermediary, was postponed due to “logistical reasons,” Oman stated.
“Regarding the future of the talks, we will await Oman’s announcement,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a press conference on Monday. “We’re confident the Omanis will inform us in due time about the continuation of the process, including timing and location.”
The delay comes amidst conflicting signals from the US administration regarding the ultimate goal of the negotiations. While President Donald Trump has stated his desire for the “total dismantlement” of Iran’s nuclear program, he has also indicated a willingness to consider Iran’s justification for pursuing “civilian energy.”
During an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump emphasized:
“I want Iran to be really successful, really great, really fantastic. The only thing they can’t have is a nuclear weapon.”
In response to Trump’s remarks, Baghaei, without directly naming the US president, criticized the contradictory messaging emanating from American officials.
“If the American side’s concern is that Iran shouldn’t have a nuclear bomb, then if they’re being honest, a lot of issues should already be resolved,” Baghaei asserted. “We’ve shown for a long time that we’re not trying to weaponize our nuclear program.”
Iran Denies Houthi Involvement
Separately, Iran has sought to distance itself from a recent Houthi missile strike on Israel, which evaded Israeli air defenses and landed near Ben Gurion airport.
The Iranian foreign ministry stated via Telegram that the Yemen-based Houthis make “independent decisions.” This statement comes after the US and Israel have long accused Iran of providing the Houthis with financial and military support, a claim Iran denies.
The US has been conducting daily strikes against Houthi targets since mid-March in an effort to curb their attacks on ships in the Red Sea and on Israel. President Trump has maintained that Iran bears responsibility for the Houthis’ actions.
In response to the Houthi missile strike, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on X, “Israel will respond to the Houthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of our choosing, to their Iranian terror masters.”
