The Hub on Smith in Sheridan will host a Wyoming Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony on Saturday, May 10, from 1:15 to 2:00 p.m., as part of a statewide initiative to honor and recognize the service of the state’s veterans.
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon is scheduled to speak at the event, alongside Major General Greg Porter, Adjutant General of Wyoming, and Command Sergeant Major Retired Ken Persson, Chairman of the Wyoming Veterans Commission. The ceremony aims to extend appreciation to all Wyoming veterans, particularly those who were not formally recognized when they returned from service.
The Welcome Home initiative was created to ensure that veterans — especially those from the Korean and Vietnam Wars — receive the acknowledgment they may not have received in decades past. The official Wyoming Veterans Welcome Home Day was established by the state’s 61st Legislature, designating March 30 as an annual day of recognition. The date marks the historical return of US combat troops to Wyoming following the Vietnam War in 1973.
All Wyoming veterans, along with current service members, surviving spouses, and family members, are invited to attend the ceremony.
