An Ashanti Alert issued for a missing Riverton man, 82-year-old James Knudsen, has been resolved after he was located safely, according to an update shared by the Wyoming Amber/Ashanti Alert Facebook page, County 10 reports.

The alert was originally issued on May 10, 2025, at 12:51 PM by the Riverton Police Department, after Knudsen was last seen in Riverton at approximately 5:00 PM. Authorities believed he may have been traveling toward Sheridan or possibly Dubois, Wyoming. He was reportedly driving a silver 2014 Nissan Altima with Wyoming license plate 10-47720.

The Ashanti Alert system, named after Ashanti Billie who was abducted and killed in 2017, is used to quickly share information about missing adults, especially in suspected abduction cases. While many states use Silver Alerts for elderly individuals, Wyoming instead utilizes the Ashanti Alert for all adults over the age of 17.

Knudsen’s safe recovery brings the alert to a close. No further details about his condition or circumstances were immediately released. Authorities thanked the public for their attention and assistance in sharing information during the alert.

Anyone with ongoing information or concerns about similar cases is encouraged to contact the Riverton Police Department at 307-856-4891.
