U.S. President Donald Trump began a four-day trip to the Middle East, landing in Saudi Arabia to a warm reception as he looks to strengthen ties with regional allies and strike economic agreements, as per The AP.

The visit comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the war in Gaza, and volatile energy markets.

Trump was greeted at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto ruler. The two leaders are expected to discuss a broad agenda, including cooperation on dismantling Iran’s nuclear program, efforts to end the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, and strategies to stabilize global oil prices.

While official statements have emphasized economic cooperation, the visit also underscores the strategic alignment between Washington and Riyadh, especially in countering Tehran’s influence in the region.

In a potential shift from regional focus, Trump hinted at a possible detour to Turkey later in the week. He suggested he might attend a planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul, aimed at negotiating an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“If my presence would be helpful, I’m ready,” Trump told reporters.

The trip has not been without controversy. On Monday, Trump confirmed he was considering accepting a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s ruling family as a gift. U.S. officials say the plane could potentially be refitted for use as a presidential aircraft. The offer has raised ethical concerns in Washington, with critics questioning whether such a gift would violate U.S. laws or present conflicts of interest.
