A Los Angeles judge has granted a restraining order to actor and singer Halle Bailey, star of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, following her allegations of repeated abuse by her ex-boyfriend, rapper and YouTuber Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known professionally as DDG, as per Th AP.
The emergency order, issued Tuesday, requires Granberry to stay away from Bailey, 25, and their 17-month-old son, Halo, until a scheduled court hearing on June 6. The judge also barred Granberry from owning firearms or contacting Bailey in any form.
“Throughout our relationship, Darryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me,” Bailey wrote in court documents. “I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.”
Bailey and Granberry were in a relationship from 2022 until their breakup last year. In her request for protection, Bailey cited multiple incidents of escalating violence, including one in January when she alleges Granberry physically assaulted her during a dispute while she was placing their son in a car seat.
“We fought each other, wrestling and tussling,” Bailey stated in the court filing. “At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped. I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain.” Bailey submitted photographs of her injuries, including bruises and a chipped tooth, as evidence.
In another incident in March, Bailey claims Granberry unlawfully entered her home while she was away, texting her a photo of her bed with a threatening message. She also accused him of smashing her Ring security camera during a confrontation in which he allegedly took her phone and slammed a car door on her while she was holding their child.
Bailey said she filed a police report following that incident.
The Grammy-nominated singer also asked the court to prevent Granberry from using his large social media following to target her. She alleged that Granberry frequently uses his platforms on YouTube and Twitch to harass her, encouraging his millions of followers to send her hateful and threatening messages.
“Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad mouthing me to his several millions of fans,” Bailey wrote. “He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media.”
A representative for Granberry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Granberry, 27, from Pontiac, Michigan, rose to fame through YouTube before transitioning to music. His fourth studio album, Blame the Chat, was released earlier this month by Epic Records.
Bailey, who first gained prominence as one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, starred in the sitcom Grown-ish and played the lead role in the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. She has been nominated for five Grammy Awards.
The restraining order could be extended for up to five years depending on the outcome of the June 6 hearing.
