The University of Wyoming Athletics Department will honor more than 110 graduating student-athletes during its Spring Stole Ceremony, set for Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the UniWyo Federal Credit Union Sports Complex, 7220 Sports reports.

The by-invitation event will recognize graduates from across all of the university’s NCAA-sanctioned sports, as well as the Spirit Squad, Rodeo team, and several graduate assistants.

The tradition, which began in spring 2014, provides each graduating student-athlete with a special white stole featuring the Steamboat Bucking Horse and Rider emblem on one side and the “W Club” logo on the other. Graduates will also receive a free year-long membership to the W Club, the official alumni organization for former Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes and coaches.

This spring’s graduating class includes representatives from all 17 varsity sports at UW. Degrees range from bachelor’s and master’s programs in fields such as engineering, business, education, health sciences, communication, and agriculture.

University of Wyoming head men’s basketball coach Sundance Wicks will deliver remarks, joined by Colter Linford, assistant athletics director of academics and eligibility. Emily Mellema, a member of the Cowgirl basketball team, and former swimmer Hannah McLean-Leonard will also speak.

“This is one of the most special events of the year for our student-athletes and staff,” said UW Director of Athletics Tom Burman. “It’s a meaningful opportunity for us to celebrate their academic accomplishments and wish them success in their next chapter.”

The stole ceremony precedes the university’s spring commencement exercises on Saturday, which will take place in three sessions throughout the day at the Arena-Auditorium. Additional commencement details can be found at www.uwyo.edu/commencement.
