The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) has released additional details about a fatal head-on collision that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Snake River Canyon, near milepost 121.8 on US Highways 26/89, just east of Alpine.
According to Sgt. Jason Roascio, the crash occurred at approximately 4:02 p.m. on May 14, when a southbound 2013 Honda CR-V crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2021 Ford F-150 head-on. The driver of the Honda, identified as 80-year-old Ann Wright of Alpine, Wyoming, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wright, who was reportedly wearing a seat belt, is believed to have drifted into oncoming traffic due to driver fatigue or a possible medical condition, which are both being investigated as contributing factors. The WHP also noted that it was raining at the time of the collision and that road conditions were wet.
The driver and a passenger in the Ford F-150 were injured, although their names and conditions have not yet been released by authorities.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. This tragic crash marks the 34th highway fatality in the state so far this year.
WHP is urging drivers to remain cautious, particularly in adverse weather conditions, and to avoid driving while fatigued or if experiencing any medical symptoms that may impair driving ability.
