Former U.S. President Joe Biden, aged 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement from his office, as per Fox News.

The diagnosis followed a routine physical examination prompted by increasing urinary symptoms, which led to the discovery of a prostate nodule.

Medical evaluations revealed a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating a high-grade, aggressive cancer with a significant risk of rapid progression and metastasis. Despite the advanced stage, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, providing potential treatment options.

Biden and his family are currently consulting with his medical team to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. Potential therapies include hormone therapy to suppress testosterone production, radiation therapy targeting bone lesions, and possibly surgical removal of the prostate.

The prognosis for advanced prostate cancer varies, with median survival rates ranging from three to five years, depending on individual factors and response to treatment. Early detection remains critical, as localized prostate cancer is often curable, whereas metastatic cases are more challenging to treat.

Biden’s diagnosis has prompted an outpouring of support from political figures across the spectrum. President Donald Trump extended well wishes, and former President Barack Obama expressed confidence in Biden’s resilience, referencing his leadership in the Cancer Moonshot initiative aimed at reducing cancer mortality rates.
