Wyoming Air National Guard Leader Promoted to Brigadier General in Ceremony Honoring Service and Family

Col. Barry Deibert was officially promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony held May 17, 2025, at the Wyoming National Guard’s Joint Force Readiness Center, DVIDS reports.
The event marked a milestone in Deibert’s decades-long military career and highlighted the values of service, leadership, and family.
Brig. Gen. Deibert currently serves as the assistant adjutant general for air and commander of the Wyoming Air National Guard, where he leads over 1,200 Airmen. His leadership spans a broad array of missions at the national, state, and community levels.
Maj. Gen. Greg Porter, the adjutant general of Wyoming, presided over the ceremony. He praised Deibert not only for his professional achievements but also for his commitment to education and community service.
“He is the epitome of a citizen Airman—serving full time while also teaching in our schools,” Porter said. “Every chance Deibert has to make an impact—to make the world and our state a better place—he takes it.”
The ceremony was attended by friends, family, and fellow service members. Among the honored guests was Deibert’s father, August Anton Deibert, a 97-year-old Korean War veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. The event also recognized the vital role of military families. Deibert’s wife, Pat, and daughter, Darcy, had the honor of pinning on his new rank—a tradition that symbolizes the shared journey of military service.
In his first remarks as a brigadier general, Deibert reflected on his return to service after an earlier retirement and acknowledged the many people who influenced his career.
“This promotion isn’t about a single person,” he said. “It’s about all the people I’ve had the privilege to serve with. Airmen are the magic.”
He concluded his speech with gratitude and humility, viewing his new role as a responsibility rather than a reward.
“Stay strong, be proud, and fly for the brand,” he said.
The ceremony closed with the singing of the Air Force song, followed by the Army song in tribute to his father.
