Gasoline prices in Wyoming have inched higher over the past week, reflecting a broader national trend of modest fuel cost increases as the summer travel season approaches, K2 Radio reports.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of 494 stations across the state, the average price of gas in Wyoming now stands at $3.09 per gallon—up 0.8 cents from last week and 0.7 cents above last month’s average. Despite this, prices remain significantly lower than a year ago, when the average was $3.31 per gallon.
The price of diesel has also climbed nationally, rising 2.9 cents over the past week to $3.502 per gallon. Wyoming drivers are still benefiting from lower fuel costs compared to recent years, but price volatility remains a factor, with gas station prices in the state ranging from $2.73 to $4.29 per gallon—a difference of $1.56.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline increased by 6.1 cents over the past week to $3.14 per gallon. That marks a 1.9-cent rise from a month ago, though it is still 41 cents below the average from this time last year. GasBuddy’s data, compiled from over 11 million price reports across 150,000 stations nationwide, suggests that prices are moving upward in most states.
“Gasoline prices jumped in over three-quarters of US states over the last week, as oil prices surged following former President Trump’s decision to reduce tariffs and strike new trade deals,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Economic optimism and tighter gasoline inventories have added to the pressure on fuel costs.”
Despite the recent uptick, De Haan noted that prices are tracking at some of the lowest inflation-adjusted levels in years, setting the stage for one of the more affordable summer travel seasons since the pandemic. GasBuddy is expected to release its summer forecast and travel survey results ahead of Memorial Day.
In neighboring regions, gas prices also showed mixed changes. Fort Collins, Colorado, saw an increase of 2.7 cents to $3.04 per gallon. Ogden, Utah, experienced a slight decline, with prices dropping 1.1 cents to $3.18. Billings, Montana, posted a modest rise of 1.5 cents to $3.07 per gallon.
Historically, Wyoming’s gas prices have varied significantly over the past decade, with the highest average on May 19 occurring in 2022 at $4.26 per gallon. In contrast, the lowest was recorded in 2020 during the height of pandemic-related travel restrictions, at just $1.80 per gallon.
While current prices reflect a mild upward trend, they remain well below recent peaks. With summer driving season on the horizon, industry analysts suggest that travelers may still find this year relatively affordable at the pump.
