A fifth inmate who escaped from the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility has been recaptured, Louisiana State Police confirmed Tuesday, as per Fox News.

Corey E. Boyd, 19, was apprehended in New Orleans after several days on the run. Authorities say Boyd had been briefly spotted on Friday, just hours after the jailbreak, but managed to elude capture until now.

Boyd was originally being held on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and threatening a public official. He is accused of killing Brandon Fees during a 2024 car burglary incident. Following his recapture, he will be transferred to a secure state facility and formally charged with simple escape, police said in a statement on Facebook.

The mass escape occurred on Friday night, when 10 inmates fled the jail through a hole concealed behind a toilet. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the men scaling a barbed wire fence before fleeing across a nearby highway into a neighborhood, where they changed clothes to evade identification.

Authorities are still searching for the remaining five fugitives, identified as:

  • Lenton J. Vanburen Jr., 26 – Facing weapons charges, obstruction of justice, and introducing contraband into a prison.
  • Jermaine Donald, 42 – Charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and weapons possession.
  • Antoine Massey, 32 – Wanted for domestic abuse by strangulation, motor vehicle theft, and parole violation.
  • Derrick D. Groves, 27 – Facing multiple counts of attempted and second-degree murder, and battery of a correctional officer.
  • Leo O. Tate Sr., 31 – Accused of burglary, weapons violations, auto theft, and drug offenses.

Meanwhile, Sterling Williams, 33, a maintenance worker at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office. According to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, Williams told investigators that an inmate threatened to stab him if he didn’t assist in the escape.

Officials suspect the jailbreak was an inside job, with planning and coordination that may have spanned weeks or months. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has not commented on how the inmates managed to breach multiple layers of security undetected.
