Riverton Mayor Tim Hancock has officially recognized the Wyoming Weapons Collectors Memorial Weekend Gun Show for its longstanding presence and economic impact on the local community, County 10 reports.
A proclamation issued this week by the mayor highlights the event’s 36-year history in Riverton and its continued role as both a community gathering and a regional attraction.
The 36th Annual Gun Show, organized by the Wyoming Weapons Collectors Association (WWCA), will take place this Memorial Day weekend at the Fremont County Fairgrounds—its home since the event began. The show is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.
According to the mayor’s proclamation, the gun show is presented in a “family-friendly environment” and draws a wide range of attendees, including collectors, hunters, enthusiasts of the Second Amendment, and newcomers to the firearms community. It also serves as a fundraiser for WWCA, with proceeds supporting youth education programs that emphasize safe firearm handling and marksmanship skills.
The annual event has grown to attract hundreds of visitors from around Wyoming and neighboring states, many of whom stay in Riverton and contribute to the local economy through dining, lodging, and shopping. Organizers say this consistent influx of tourism during Memorial Day weekend plays a significant role in boosting local business.
The WWCA recently deepened its ties to the community by relocating its primary office to Fremont County. Maralyne Middour, a longtime county resident, was appointed Executive Secretary of the organization, taking over after the previous secretary stepped down following more than three decades of service.
“We’re making some changes and we’re really moving the dial with getting more tourism coming into Riverton,” Middour told the Riverton City Council. “We will be in force this weekend and spending money, keeping the economy flowing well in Riverton this Memorial Day Weekend.”
The association’s membership extends throughout Wyoming and into neighboring states, including Missouri and Nevada. Middour emphasized the appreciation WWCA has for Riverton’s ongoing hospitality and invited the public to attend the show.
As a gesture of appreciation, service members, first responders, and law enforcement officials wearing their uniforms will receive priority entry free of charge.
Admission is $6 for adults who are not members of the association, while children 12 and under may attend for free when accompanied by an adult. The event will be held at the Fremont County Fairgrounds, 1010 Fairgrounds Drive, Riverton.
