As summer approaches, gasoline prices in across Wyoming are holding steady, reflecting a broader trend seen nationwide, K2 Radio reports.

According to data released by GasBuddy from a survey of 494 stations across the state, the average price of gas in Wyoming remains unchanged over the past week, standing at $3.09 per gallon.

This state average mirrors national patterns, where the average gas price is also flat at $3.13 per gallon. Although the national figure is slightly higher than Wyoming’s, it represents only a modest increase of 3.1 cents compared to a month ago and is 43 cents lower than the same time last year.

Gas price disparities within Wyoming remain notable. The least expensive fuel was reported at $2.69 per gallon, while the highest price reached $4.19 per gallon—a spread of $1.50. This price range highlights the variation that can be found between urban centers, rural communities, and areas more dependent on tourism or remote access.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that despite a smaller-than-expected drop ahead of Memorial Day, gas prices remain affordable compared to recent years.

“While the national average didn’t fall quite as far as anticipated for Memorial Day, it was still one of the most affordable since 2021— and, when adjusted for inflation, among the cheapest in nearly a decade,” he said.

Looking ahead, De Haan expects relative stability at the pump.

“As we move into the heart of summer, I believe we’re likely to see a relatively stable stretch for gas prices as refinery maintenance wraps up. Don’t expect the national average to rise above $3.30 per gallon, nor drop much below $3 for now,” he added.

However, he also cautioned that ongoing refining issues and uncertainties surrounding the upcoming hurricane season could impact prices.

Comparatively, gasoline prices in neighboring regions have also remained flat over the last week. Fort Collins, Colorado, is averaging $3.04 per gallon; Ogden, Utah, is at $3.17 per gallon; and Billings, Montana, stands at $3.12 per gallon.

Historical data shows how current prices stack up against the past decade. For instance, on May 27, 2020, Wyoming residents paid an average of just $1.87 per gallon, largely due to pandemic-driven demand drops. In contrast, prices peaked in 2022, with Wyoming averaging $4.32 per gallon and the national average hitting $4.60 per gallon.
